Martha Ellsworth1

     Martha Ellsworth was born on 7 December 1662 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.2 She was the daughter of Sgt. Josiah Ellsworth and Elizabeth Holcombe. Martha Ellsworth married Sgt. John Osborn, son of John Osborn and Ann Oldage, circa 1690.3

The children are listed in the Ellsworth Genealogy and Stiles. Stiles lists 2 twin sons b. and d. February 3, 1692, then Isaac, Mary and Jacob. Weir states that Martha married Samuel Stiles in 1701 and George Norton in 1707, but Bowman thinks that Martha is the first child of Josiah Ellsworth II.

Laquer goes into extensive detail to show that Martha married John Osborn and that it was Martha, the daughter of Josiah (Josias) II that married Samuel Stiles in December 1701.

     Jonathan Ellsworth was born on 28 June 1669. He was the son of Sgt. Josiah Ellsworth and Elizabeth Holcombe. Jonathan Ellsworth married Sarah Grant, daughter of Tahan Grant and Hannah Palmer, on 26 October 1693 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Jonathan Ellsworth died on 13 September 1749 at age 80.

Jonathan was a partner in a saw mill and grist mill, and operated a tavern and small store. He died in 1749 when thrown from a horse at age 80. The children are listed in the Ellsworth Genealogy.

John Ellsworth1

b. 7 October 1671, d. 26 October 1720
     John Ellsworth was born on 7 October 1671. He was the son of Sgt. Josiah Ellsworth and Elizabeth Holcombe. John Ellsworth married Esther White, daughter of Lt. Daniel White and Sarah Crow, on 9 December 1696. John Ellsworth died on 26 October 1720 at age 49.

John was one of the largest land holders in Windsor, He settled in Ellington, CT. He died of a falling of a tree. The children are listed in the Ellsworth Genealogy.

Inventory of John's estate was taken 18 Nov 1720 by Nathaniel Loomis, Samuel Rockwell and David Bissell. Esther and John Ellsworth II were appointed guardians of Anna, and Esther and Daniel were appointed guardians of Martha. Danile White, Jonathan Elsworth and David Bissell were appointed distributors. The two farms were distributed to the two sons and "they paying to the daughters their portional parts, there being no objection, this Court os order." 2

James Green McCafferty

b. circa 1790
     James Green McCafferty was born circa 1790. He died at Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland.

Little is known about this McCafferty ancestor except that he was supposed to have 11 sons and two daughters. His first name, James, is a guess. it is believed that he lived in Ballyshanon (Beal Atha Seanaidh) in County donegal and was probably a tenant farmer. Ballyshannon is at the mouth of the River Erne on Donegal Bay. He lived before the establishment of the current civil parishes, but the town is now included in two parishes. Town of Ballyshannon (the West Rock) is part of Inishmacsaint parish. The Chapel Lane, Church Lane, Main Street Upper and the Mall areas of Ballyshannon are in the Kilbarron parish (although only Chapel Lane is a Roman Catholic area). Some descendants moved a few miles east on the south of the River to the Lissahully area.
