     Horatio Noble was born on 20 November 1777 at Willington, CT.¹ He was the son of Rev. Gideon Noble and Christian Cadwell. Horatio Noble married Matilda Bissell on 11 March 1802.¹ Horatio Noble died on 6 November 1837 at East Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 59.¹

     Matilda Bissell was born on 26 March 1783 at East Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She married Horatio Noble, son of Rev. Gideon Noble and Christian Cadwell, on 11 March 1802.¹ Matilda Bissell died on 27 January 1839 at East Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 55.¹

     Rev. Gideon Noble was born on 6 March 1728 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ He was the son of Ens. Matthew Noble and Joanna Stebbins. Rev. Gideon Noble married Christian Cadwell on 4 December 1760.² Rev. Gideon Noble died on 6 November 1792 at Willington, CT, at age 64; from his tombstone.¹

     Christian Cadwell was born at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT. She married Rev. Gideon Noble, son of Ens. Matthew Noble and Joanna Stebbins, on 4 December 1760.¹ Christian Cadwell died on 24 November 1809 at Willington, CT; according to the family record.

     Haynes Noble Woodbridge was the son of Lt. Theophilus Woodbridge and Mary Noble.¹ Haynes Noble Woodbridge died circa 1825 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Eliza Ann Holcombe was born in October 1824 at Granville, Washington Co., NY.^1,2 She was the daughter of James Holcombe and Olive Noble.² Eliza Ann Holcombe married (?) Gillett before 1843.² Eliza Ann Holcombe married Charles Noble, son of Charles Noble and Ann Waters, in 1848.³ Eliza Ann Holcombe married Edward Mackin circa 1883.²

Eliza and Charles were first cousins. Eliza Ann Holcombe died in 1910 at Amboy, Lee Co., IL.²

     Esther Holcombe was born on 17 September 1830 at Granville, Washington Co., NY.¹ She was the daughter of James Holcombe and Olive Noble.² Esther Holcombe married Lewis Fowler on 10 January 1851.¹ Esther Holcombe died on 11 December 1886 at Lamoni, Decatur Co., IA, at age 56.¹ She was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Decatur Co., IA.

Lewis and Esther were enumerated in the 1870 Amboy, Lee Co., IL, federal census. He was a farmer, age 43, she was 39. Children in he household were Olive 18, Eda 15, Lewis 14, George 11, Harriet 9, Esther 5, and Joanna 2.


Lewis and Esther were enumerated in the 1880 Fayette, Decatur Co., IA, federal census. He was a farmer age 56, she was 50. Children in the household were Eva 25, George 21, Esther 15, Laura 8, Alma 7, and Edmund 3.

     Henry Holcombe was born on 5 December 1834 at Granville, Washington Co., NY.^2,3 He was the son of James Holcombe and Olive Noble.¹ Henry Holcombe married Elizabeth Williams on 25 December 1855 at Lee Co., IL. Henry Holcombe married Louisa Snodgrass, daughter of Thomas Snodgrass and Abigail (?), on 1 January 1869 at Lee Co., IL.² Henry Holcombe died on 26 June 1916 at Rock Falls, Whiteside Co., IL, at age 81.² He was buried on 28 June 1916 at IOOF Cemetery, Rock Falls, Whiteside Co., IL.²

Based on the frequently unreliable information from census records it appears that Henry and Louisa each had a child prior to their marriage and then produced four children of their own. The census records of 1910 indicate that they were married circa 1867, which would be after the births of Charles and Frances.

Henry and Louisa were enumerated in the 1870 Amboy, Lee Co., IL, federal census. He was a farmer, age 35, born in NY; she was 27, born in WI. Two children were enumerated Emma 3, and Melissa 1, both born in IL. Also enumerated was Francis Snodgrass, 9.


Henry and Louise were enumerated in the 1880 Amboy, Lee Co., IL, federal census. He was a farmer age 45, she was 36. Children in the household were Emma 13, Mary 10, Julia 8, Isabel 7. Uncle Stephen Sherwood was also in the household, age 65.


Henry and Louisa were enumerated in the 1900 Amboy Twp., Lee Co., IL, federal census, next door to nephew Linus Holcomb. Henry was born in NY in Dec 1834, and wife Louisa in Feb 1844. There were no children enumerated, but Louisa had 5 children, all still living.


Henry was enumerated in the 1910 Amboy Twp., Lee Co., IL, federal census. He was 75; wife Louisa was 65. Henry had been married twice, they had been married 42 years. Louise had 5 children, 4 of whom were still living.

Henry Holcomb, or better known by the children and many friends of this city, as Grandpa Holcomb, passed away at 11:13 o'clock Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Perry Hastings, 607 East Sixth Street. His demise was due to dropsy of which he has been a sufferer for several years. Mr. Holcomb was born Dec. 15, 1834 in White Hall, New York. In the year 1864 he moved to Amboy, Ill., where he was engaged in farming for a number of years. For the past few years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Hastings.

He lease to mourn hi sdeath four daughers, Mrs. Emma Holden, Mrs. Julia Langford of Walnut, Mrs. Dolly Hastings, Mrs. Belle Wellman of Rock Falls, and one son, Charles Holcomb, preceeded him to the Great Beyond five years ago.

The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Hastings.

     Charles Noble was born on 20 December 1823.¹ He was the son of Charles Noble and Ann Waters.² Charles Noble married Eliza Ann Holcombe, daughter of James Holcombe and Olive Noble, in 1848.¹ Charles Noble died on 26 March 1880 at Amboy, Lee Co., IL, at age 56.

Charles and his family removed to Shelburne, Lee Co., Ill.³

     Ann Eliza Noble was born on 14 June 1849 at Dresden, NY.¹ She was the daughter of Charles Noble and Eliza Ann Holcombe.¹

     Julia Erming Noble was born on 20 November 1850 at Dresden, NY.¹ She was the daughter of Charles Noble and Eliza Ann Holcombe.¹

     Charles Noble was born on 1 April 1798 at Granville, Washington Co., NY.¹ He was the son of Joel Noble and Naomi Loomis. Charles Noble married Ann Waters on 13 February 1820.¹

     Ann Waters married Charles Noble, son of Joel Noble and Naomi Loomis, on 13 February 1820.¹ Ann Waters died at Whitehall, Washington Co., NY.

     Levi Holcombe was born circa 1813 at NY. He was the son of James Holcombe and Olive Noble.¹ Levi Holcombe married Susanne Jane Wiley circa 1838.²

It will be assumed that he is the brother of Linus and the family found in that census will be listed here. This Levi had children named Linus and Esther, the same as his siblings.

Children in the household were Levi 20, James W. 19, Charles J. 18, Sarah J. 15, Linus 13, Esther 11, twins Lewis and Lucy 9, Aaron 6, Cynthia A. 4, Oliver 2, and Mary J. 6 months; all born in NY.

     Linus Noble Holcombe was born on 13 February 1823 at Whitehall, Washington Co., NY.^2,3,4 He was the son of James Holcombe and Olive Noble.⁵ Linus Noble Holcombe married Esther Amelia Gillett, daughter of Andijohn Gillett and Theodosia Utter, on 22 March 1849 at Whitehall, Washington Co., NY.³ Linus Noble Holcombe married Hannah Lucinda Davis before 1859.⁵ Linus Noble Holcombe married Julia Ann Pitts on 12 September 1861.^1,3,5 Linus Noble Holcombe died on 30 January 1892 at Rock Falls, Whiteside Co., IL, at age 68.^3,4 He was buried at Prarie Repose Cemetery, Amboy Township, Lee Co., IL.⁴

The 1855 Whitehall, Washington Co., NY State census shows Linus and Esther in the household of Andijohn Gillett. Theodocia is 4, Andijohn is 1.


There is a possibility of another child, an earlier Linus N. Holcombe Jr. who was born 9 March 1856; who must have died before the like named brother born in 1865.


Linus and Lucinda were enumerated in the 1860 Whitehall, Washington Co., NY federal census, page 24, household 190. He was a carpenter age 56, she was 55. Children in the household were Thedocia 7, Theodore 6, and Esther, 1. The census indicates that Lucinda and the three children were all born in Canada.


Linus and Julia were enumerated in the 1880 Amboy, Lee Co., IL, federal census. He was a farmer, age 57, born in NY; she was 37. Children in the household were Mary 18, Linus 15, Otis 8 born in IL, Georgiana 7, Laura 6, and Alice 2.

     Champlain S. Holcombe was also known as Iona Holcombe. He was born on 14 August 1818 at Granville, Washington Co., NY.^1,2 He was the son of James Holcombe and Olive Noble.³ Champlain S. Holcombe married Sarah Ann Livingston on 8 November 1840 at possibly Whitehall, Washington Co., NY.^1,3 Champlain S. Holcombe died on 28 January 1898 at Dresden, Washington Co., NY, at age 79.¹ He was buried at Boardman Cemetery, Whitehall, Washington Co., NY.¹

It appears that there is an entry in the 1850 Whitehall, Washington Co., NY, federal census that is this family.
Iona S. Holcomb, age 33, a carpenter, wife Sarah A., age 27, children S. E. (female) age 3, Olive age 1. Daniel Noble, a peddler age 32 is also in the household.

     Roswell Fisher Noble was born on 4 April 1792 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Roswell Noble and Susannah Tuller.² Roswell Fisher Noble married Betsey Case, daughter of Abel Case and Anna Tuller, on 4 March 1818 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.^1,3 Roswell Fisher Noble died on 30 August 1843 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 51.¹

     Betsey Case was born on 29 August 1796 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.^1,2 She was the daughter of Abel Case and Anna Tuller. Betsey Case married Roswell Fisher Noble, son of Roswell Noble and Susannah Tuller, on 4 March 1818 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.^1,2 Betsey Case died on 23 October 1876 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 80.^1,2

     Roswell Noble was born circa 1758 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Dea. Jonathan Noble and Elizabeth Cole. Roswell Noble married Susannah Tuller in August 1785.¹ Roswell Noble died on 9 September 1841 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Susannah Tuller was born circa 1753.¹ She married Roswell Noble, son of Dea. Jonathan Noble and Elizabeth Cole, in August 1785.¹ Susannah Tuller died on 10 November 1815.¹

     Sylvester Noble was born on 30 July 1798 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Roswell Noble and Susannah Tuller. Sylvester Noble married Mayette Holcombe, daughter of Increase Holcombe and Mary Reed, on 27 June 1821 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT; Increase's bible says the 22nd.¹ Sylvester Noble died on 30 November 1827 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 29.¹

     Silas Noble was born on 28 August 1733 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ He was the son of Thomas Noble and Sarah Root. Silas Noble married Bethia Dewey on 25 November 1756.¹ Silas Noble died on 11 July 1775 at Russell, Hampden Co., MA, at age 41; probably of camp distemper.¹

     Bethia Dewey was born on 22 September 1739 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ She married Silas Noble, son of Thomas Noble and Sarah Root, on 25 November 1756.¹ Bethia Dewey died on 5 May 1763 at Blanford, Hampden Co., MA, at age 23.¹

     Dea. John Shepard was born on 18 November 1706 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ He married Elizabeth Noble, daughter of Dea. Thomas Noble and Elizabeth Dewey, on 20 May 1731. Dea. John Shepard died on 8 August 1783 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA, at age 76.¹

     Elizabeth Noble was born on 3 January 1706 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ She was the daughter of Dea. Thomas Noble and Elizabeth Dewey. Elizabeth Noble married Dea. John Shepard on 20 May 1731. Elizabeth Noble died on 12 November 1793 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA, at age 87.¹

     Samuel Noble was born on 5 August 1722 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ He was the son of Sgt. Luke Noble and Ruth Wright. Samuel Noble married Catharine Fowler on 24 November 1743.² Samuel Noble died on 4 November 1773 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA, at age 51; of pleurisy.¹

     Catharine Fowler was born on 1 July 1723.¹ She married Samuel Noble, son of Sgt. Luke Noble and Ruth Wright, on 24 November 1743.¹ Catharine Fowler died on 19 October 1806 at age 83.¹

     John Noble was born on 6 March 1662 at Springfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ He was the son of Thomas Noble and Hannah Warringer.¹ John Noble married Abigail Sacket, daughter of John Sackett and Abigail Hannum, on 13 September 1682.² John Noble married Mary Goodman, daughter of Richard Goodman and Mary Terry, in 1684.³ John Noble died on 17 August 1714 at New Milford, Litchfield Co., CT, at age 52.⁴

     Hannah Noble was born on 24 February 1664 at Springfield, Hampden Co., MA.² She was the daughter of Thomas Noble and Hannah Warringer.¹ Hannah Noble married John Goodman, son of Richard Goodman and Mary Terry, circa 1685.³ Hannah Noble married Nathaniel Edwards, son of Alexander Edwards and Sarah Searle, on 12 October 1728.³ Hannah Noble married Hon. Samuel Partridge on 28 December 1731. Hannah Noble died circa 1741 at probably Hadley, MA.³

     Mary Noble was born on 29 June 1680 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.² She was the daughter of Thomas Noble and Hannah Warringer.¹ Mary Noble married Lieut. Ephraim Colton, son of Ephraim Colton and Mary Drake, on 1 February 1700.³

     Rebecca Noble was born on 4 January 1683 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.² She was the daughter of Thomas Noble and Hannah Warringer.¹ Rebecca Noble married Sergt. Samuel Loomis, son of Samuel Loomis and Hannah Hanchet, on 3 February 1703.³

     Sergt. Samuel Loomis was born on 28 April 1681 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ He was the son of Samuel Loomis and Hannah Hanchet.² Sergt. Samuel Loomis married Rebecca Noble, daughter of Thomas Noble and Hannah Warringer, on 3 February 1703.¹ Sergt. Samuel Loomis died on 27 October 1758 at Sheffield, Berkshire Co., MA, at age 77.¹
