     Edna Elizabeth Holcombe was born on 13 September 1911. She was the daughter of Lester E. Holcombe and Florence C. Cowan. Edna Elizabeth Holcombe died on 8 May 1997 at Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., NY, at age 85.¹

     Howard C. Holcombe was born on 5 August 1918. He was the son of Lester E. Holcombe and Florence C. Cowan. Howard C. Holcombe married Helen Jean Hunter. Howard C. Holcombe died in 1984.

     Ruth F. Holcombe was born on 23 September 1919. She was the daughter of Lester E. Holcombe and Florence C. Cowan.

     Ada Elizabeth Holcombe was born on 9 April 1920. She was the daughter of Howard Morton Holcombe and Jemima Lawson Green.

     Bowman states that Martha is dau of David and Elizabeth Filley Winchel; but Stiles does not list a daughter Martha of David and Elizabeth. Elizabeth Filley was born on 4 March 1650. She was the daughter of William Filley and Margaret (?) Elizabeth Filley married David Winchell, son of Robert Winchell, on 17 November 1669 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Martha Holcombe was born on 11 July 1799 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. She was the daughter of Jesse Holcombe and Mehitable Winchell. Martha Holcombe died on 8 February 1848 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT, at age 48. She was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.¹

     Chloe Holcombe was born on 26 September 1802 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. She was the daughter of Jesse Holcombe and Mehitable Winchell. Chloe Holcombe died on 26 September 1872 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT, at age 70. She was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.²

     Amassa Ladd Holcombe was born on 7 February 1804 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. He was the son of Jesse Holcombe and Mehitable Winchell. Amassa Ladd Holcombe married Amarilla Booth Garlick on 12 February 1827. Amassa Ladd Holcombe died on 17 September 1896 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT, at age 92. He was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.³ Lawyer, staunch Republican; recorded in the 1850 census of Isle la Motte as a farmer. He contributed to the Holcombe family genealogical collection of Dr. William Frederick Holcombe on which both the Seaver and McPherson books are based. He practiced law in town for 54 years, retired farmer, owned 85 acres occupied by D. George.

Speede Holcombe died on 17 September 1856 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT, at age 46. She was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.²

     Jesse Winchell Holcombe was born on 8 February 1812 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. He was the son of Jesse Holcombe and Mehitable Winchell. Jesse Winchell Holcombe married Minerva K. Hill, daughter of Ira Hill and Jane A. Sewel. Jesse Winchell Holcombe married Phebe Loop Hill, daughter of Calvin Hill and Mercy Pike, in 1843 at Essex, VT. Jesse Winchell Holcombe died on 19 February 1856 at age 44. He was buried on 21 February 1856 at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.²

Jesse and Phebe were enumerated in the 1850 Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT, federal census. He was a merchant age 38, she was 24. Children in the household were Alice L. 6, and Oscar 4.


Oscar and Florence were enumerated in the 1860 Isle La Motte census in the household of uncle Ephriam.


Oscar 22, Alice 24, and Florence 18, were enumerated in the 1870 Isle La Motte census in the household of Melvin B. Hyde and wife Phebe. Did mother Phebe remarry? Next door was the family of Henry and Juno Holcombe who had a 2 month old son named Jesse. The IGI shows a Phoebe Loop Hill who married 23 Dec 1856 in Isle La Motte to Melvin John Hyde.

     Ephraim Holcombe was born on 10 March 1814 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. He was the son of Jesse Holcombe and Mehitable Winchell. Ephraim Holcombe died on 20 September 1896 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT, at age 82. He was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.²

Oscar is probably the son of Ephraim's brother, Jesse Winchell Holcombe, who had died in 1856. Florence could also be a daughter of Jesse.

     Electa Holcombe was born on 15 September 1816 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. She was the daughter of Jesse Holcombe and Mehitable Winchell. Electa Holcombe married Ichabod Dawson on 12 October 1847 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. Electa Holcombe died in 1895. She was buried at East Beekmantown Cemetery, Beekmantown, Clinton Co., NY.

Ichabod and Electa moved to Beekmantown, Clinton Co., NY soon after 1840.

     Mary Holcombe was born on 21 January 1820 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. She was the daughter of Jesse Holcombe and Mehitable Winchell. Mary Holcombe married Nelson Strong Hill after 1840. Mary Holcombe died on 7 August 1899 at Brasher Centre, NY, at age 79. She was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.²

     Amarilla Booth Garlick was born on 10 October 1806 at Underhill, Chittenden Co., VT.¹ She married Amassa Ladd Holcombe, son of Jesse Holcombe and Mehitable Winchell, on 12 February 1827. Amarilla Booth Garlick died on 22 March 1884 at age 77. She was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.¹

     Carmi G. Holcombe was born on 12 May 1827 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. He was the son of Amassa Ladd Holcombe and Amarilla Booth Garlick. Carmi G. Holcombe died on 27 October 1900 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT, at age 73.³ He was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.³ Carpenter, breeder of Essex hogs, and farmer of 100 acres.

     Henry Garlick Holcombe was born on 26 November 1831 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. He was the son of Amassa Ladd Holcombe and Amarilla Booth Garlick. Henry Garlick Holcombe married June Celeste Hill, daughter of Harry Hill and Anne Tompkins Ladue, on 25 January 1856. Henry Garlick Holcombe died on 16 April 1911 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT, at age 79. He was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.³

     Alfred Vanburen Holcombe was born in 1839 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. He was the son of Amassa Ladd Holcombe and Amarilla Booth Garlick. Alfred Vanburen Holcombe died on 24 December 1865 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.¹ He was buried at North Cemetery, Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT.¹ McPherson lists Alfred as the sixth child with a ?. Seaver does not list this child at all.

     Augusta Ann Holcombe was born in 1841 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. She was the daughter of Amassa Ladd Holcombe and Amarilla Booth Garlick. Augusta Ann Holcombe married Abel Phelps.¹ Augusta Ann Holcombe died in 1900 at Manchester, Hillsborough Co., NH.² She was buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, Hillsborough Co., NH.² McPherson lists Augusta as the seventh child; Seaver does not list her at all.

     Carmi G. Holcombe II was the son of Carmi G. Holcombe and Mary Phelps Cooper.

     Jesse Winchell Holcombe was born on 2 April 1870. He was the son of Carmi G. Holcombe and Mary Phelps Cooper.

     June Celeste Hill was born on 22 April 1836. She was the daughter of Harry Hill and Anne Tompkins Ladue. June Celeste Hill married Henry Garlick Holcombe, son of Amassa Ladd Holcombe and Amarilla Booth Garlick, on 25 January 1856. June Celeste Hill died on 9 May 1906 at age 70.

     Harry Hill was born on 29 July 1801. He was the son of Caleb Hill and Cynthia Strong.¹

     Pliny Hill Holcombe was born on 12 November 1860 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. He was the son of Henry Garlick Holcombe and June Celeste Hill. Pliny Hill Holcombe died on 24 February 1864 at age 3.

     Annis Helena Holcombe was born on 10 April 1865 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. She was the daughter of Henry Garlick Holcombe and June Celeste Hill. Annis Helena Holcombe married Charles F. Tenney on 9 September 1896. Annis Helena Holcombe married James Martin Skeels on 1 March 1906. Annis Helena Holcombe lived at Shard Villa, Salisbury, VT.

Annis was a member of the Colonial Dames, DAR, and Daughters of 1812.

     Jesse Woolridge Hill Holcombe was born on 2 April 1870 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. He was the son of Henry Garlick Holcombe and June Celeste Hill. Jesse Woolridge Hill Holcombe married Annabelle Carswell, daughter of Charles Llewlyn Carswell and Sara Glynn, at Rouses Point, Clinton Co., NY. Jesse Woolridge Hill Holcombe died on 27 January 1939 at Plattsburgh, NY, at age 68.

Retail clothier and hardware merchant, 1899; county clerk, 3 terms, 1901-9; member of Board of Supervisors, Champlain; chairman Park and Beach Commission, Plattsburgh and in many community activities; established Holcomb Abstract Corp., Plattsburgh, moving there from Rouse Point in 1921.

     Annabelle Carswell was born on 28 May 1873. She was the daughter of Charles Llewlyn Carswell and Sara Glynn. Annabelle Carswell married Jesse Woolridge Hill Holcombe, son of Henry Garlick Holcombe and June Celeste Hill, at Rouses Point, Clinton Co., NY.

     Charles Llewlyn Carswell was born in 1841. He was the son of Gideon A. Carswell and Helen Bockes. Charles Llewlyn Carswell married Sara Glynn in 1869. Charles Llewlyn Carswell died in 1881.

     Sara Glynn was born in 1842. She married Charles Llewlyn Carswell, son of Gideon A. Carswell and Helen Bockes, in 1869. Sara Glynn died in 1908.

     Kenneth Henry Holcombe was born on 22 June 1898 at Rouses Point, Clinton Co., NY. He was the son of Jesse Woolridge Hill Holcombe and Annabelle Carswell. Kenneth Henry Holcombe died on 6 May 1939 at Plattsburgh, NY, at age 40.

     Prudence Celeste Holcombe was born on 8 August 1906 at Rouses Point, Clinton Co., NY. She was the daughter of Jesse Woolridge Hill Holcombe and Annabelle Carswell. Prudence Celeste Holcombe died on 28 April 1982 at Plattsburgh, Clinton Co., NY, at age 75. She was buried on 30 April 1982 at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Keeseville, NY.

Mrs. Francis, (Prudence) Callanan, 74, died Wednesday morning at her home at 95 Court St.

She was born on July 18, 1906 in Rouses Point, the daughter of Jessie and Belle (Carswell) Holcomb.

She ws a member of the Ladies of Charity and the Altar Rosary Society of St. John's Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Robert (JoAnna) Weir of Ft. Wayne, INd. and Mary Frances Callanan of Saratoga; two nephews, Kenneth and James Holcomb; and two Grandchildren.

Calling hours will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the O'Neil-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Keeseville.

     Kenneth Henry Holcombe II was born on 22 February 1927 at Plattsburgh, Clinton Co., NY.¹ He was the son of Kenneth Henry Holcombe and Mary Tierney. Kenneth Henry Holcombe II died on 16 November 1994 at Plattsburgh, Clinton Co., NY, at age 67.¹

     James Tierney Holcombe was born on 21 April 1929 at Plattsburgh, Clinton Co., NY. He was the son of Kenneth Henry Holcombe and Mary Tierney. James Tierney Holcombe died on 9 June 2005 at Las Vegas, Clark Co., NV, at age 76.

James Tierney Holcombe, a long time resident and business owner in Las Vegas since 1953, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2005. Jim was born April 21, 1929, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. When first arriving in Las Vegas Jim worked at several casinos, then was employed at the Nevada Test Site. Jim then became owner of Pogos Tavern, known for its Dixieland Jazz night, and also the owner of the Lakes Lounge. He was a top basketball official of Southern Nevada for 40 years, known for his theatrical calls on the court. He was inducted into the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Hall of Fame in 1997. Jim was a loving and supportive husband, father, and grand-father. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce; children, Terry Johnston of Carson City, Jaime Holcombe and Mary Palakovich, both of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren. Services are scheduled: visitation at Bunkers Mortuary, Tuesday, June 14, from 4-7 p.m.. Mass at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Church, Wednesday, June 15, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Special Olympics or Children's Diabetes Foundation.

     Minerva K. Hill was the daughter of Ira Hill and Jane A. Sewel.¹ Minerva K. Hill married Jesse Winchell Holcombe, son of Jesse Holcombe and Mehitable Winchell.

     Florence Ellen Holcombe was born on 15 February 1852 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT. She was the daughter of Jesse Winchell Holcombe and Phebe Loop Hill.

     Byron Thompson Holcombe was born in 1847 at VT. He was the son of Ephraim Holcombe and Mercy Hill. Byron Thompson Holcombe married Laura Eliza Dustan, daughter of Frederick William Dustan and Helen Eliza Burnham.³ Byron Thompson Holcombe lived at Evanston, Cook Co., IL. He died in 1906.

     Dr. Mahlon Beach Holcombe was born on 18 October 1850 at Isle La Motte, Grand Isle Co., VT; (GS.) He was the son of Ephraim Holcombe and Mercy Hill. Dr. Mahlon Beach Holcombe married Marcia Stearns, daughter of Nathan Wallace Stearns and Maria Talcott, on 21 June 1881.² Dr. Mahlon Beach Holcombe died on 10 December 1923 at age 73; (GS.) He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Keesville, Essex Co., NY.
