     Abiel Abbott was the son of Nehemiah Abott and Abigail Lovejoy. Abiel Abbott married Abigail Grant, daughter of Samuel Grant Jr. and Grace Minor.

     Abigail Grant married Abiel Abbott, son of Nehemiah Abott and Abigail Lovejoy. Abigail Grant was born on 18 December 1695. She was the daughter of Samuel Grant Jr. and Grace Minor.

     Grace Palmer died in 1690.¹

     Ephraim Hawley was the son of Joseph Hawley and Katherine Birdsey. Ephraim Hawley married Sarah Welles, daughter of Hon. & Capt. Samuel Welles and Elizabeth Hollister.

     Sarah Welles was the daughter of Hon. & Capt. Samuel Welles and Elizabeth Hollister. Sarah Welles married Ephraim Hawley, son of Joseph Hawley and Katherine Birdsey.

     Gov. Thomas Welles was born circa 1590 at probably Tidmington, Warwickshire, England.¹ He died on 14 January 1659/60 at Wethersfield, Hartford Co., CT.¹

Thomas is the only man in Connecticut's history to hold all four top offices: governor, deputy governor, treasurer, and secretary. In 1639, he was elected as the first treasurer of the Colony of Connecticut, and from 1640–1649 served as the colony's secretary. In this capacity, he transcribed the Fundamental Orders into the official colony records on 14 January 1638, OS, (24 January 1639, NS).

The first appearance of Governor Thomas Welles's name in Hartford was on 28 March 1637, according to the Connecticut Colonial Records. Welles came to Hartford with Reverend Thomas Hooker in June 1636. Some believe a copy of a grant in which he is named confirms this statement. He was chosen a magistrate of the Colony of Connecticut in 1637, an office he held every successive year until his death in 1660, a period of twenty-two years. He was elected deputy governor in 1654, and governor of the Connecticut Colony in 1655, and in 1656 and 1657 was deputy governor to John Winthrop the Younger; in 1658 governor, and in 1659 deputy governor, which position he held at his death on 14 January 1660 at Wethersfield, Connecticut.

     Joanna Treat was the daughter of Richard Treat and Alice Gaylard. Joanna Treat married Lt. John Hollister.

     Anna White was born in 1600 at Shalford, Co. Essex, England. She was the daughter of Robert White and Bridget Allgar. Anna White married John Porter Sr. in 1620 at Shalford, Co. Essex, England. Anna White died on 11 May 1648 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.

     Robert White was born at Messing, Co. Essex, England. There is a short discussion of the White family under John Porter Sr., in Stiles, page 620. He married Bridget Allgar on 24 June 1585 at Shalford, Co. Essex, England. Robert White died circa 17 June 1617 at Messing, Co. Essex, England.

     Bridget Allgar married Robert White on 24 June 1585 at Shalford, Co. Essex, England.

     Josiah Leavitt was the son of Deacon John Leavitt and Sarah Gilman. Josiah Leavitt married Margaret Johnson, daughter of Humphrey Johnson and Ellen Cheney.

     Margaret Johnson was the daughter of Humphrey Johnson and Ellen Cheney. Margaret Johnson married Josiah Leavitt, son of Deacon John Leavitt and Sarah Gilman.

     Ellen Cheney was the daughter of William Cheney and Margaret (?)¹ Ellen Cheney was also known as Eleanor Cheney.

     John Devotion was the son of Edward Devotion and Mary (?) John Devotion married Hannah Pond, daughter of Lt. Daniel Pond and Abigail Shepard.

     Hannah Pond was the daughter of Lt. Daniel Pond and Abigail Shepard. Hannah Pond married John Devotion, son of Edward Devotion and Mary (?).

     Abigail Ellsworth was born on 16 August 1774 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott. Abigail Ellsworth married Ezekial Williams, son of Deacon Ezekial Williams and Prudence Stoddard, on 20 October 1794 at Elmwood, Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Abigail Ellsworth left a will on 16 June 1853. She died in 1860 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT. She was buried at Spring Grove Cemetery, Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.

     Oliver Ellsworth was born on 22 October 1776 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott. Oliver Ellsworth died on 20 May 1778 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 1.

     Stiles: Oliver, Jr., ". . . accompanied his father to France as Secretary. His health was naturally frail; he was a diligent student; the mild climate of the West Indies, whither he resorted for relief, failed to benefit him . . ." Oliver Ellsworth Jr. was born on 27 April 1781 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott. Oliver Ellsworth Jr. was graduated in 1799 at Yale, New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. He died on 4 July 1805 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 24.

     Stiles: "He inherited the homestead and estate at Windsor, whee he resided . . . a gentleman of high character and fine abilities." Major Martin Ellsworth was born on 17 April 1783 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott. Major Martin Ellsworth was graduated in 1801 at Yale, New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. He married Sophia Wolcott, daughter of Senator Samuel Wolcott and Jerusha Wolcott, on 19 October 1807. Major Martin Ellsworth died on 2 November 1857 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 74. He was buried at Palisado Cemetery, Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.

     William Ellsworth was born on 25 June 1785 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott. William Ellsworth died on 24 July 1785 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.

     Frances Ellsworth was born on 31 August 1786 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott. Frances Ellsworth married Hon. Joseph Wood, son of David Wood and Sarah (?), on 10 May 1809. Frances Ellsworth died on 14 March 1868 at New Haven, New Haven Co., CT, at age 81.

     Delia Ellsworth was born on 23 July 1789 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott. Delia Ellsworth married Hon. Thomas Scott Williams, son of Deacon Ezekial Williams and Prudence Stoddard, on 7 January 1812. Delia Ellsworth died on 24 June 1840 at age 50. She was buried on 28 June 1840 at Old North Cemetery, Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.

     Gov. William Wolcott Ellsworth was born on 10 November 1791 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott. Gov. William Wolcott Ellsworth was graduated in 1811 at Yale, New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. He married Emily Scholten Webster, daughter of Noah Webster Jr. and Rebecca Greenleaf, on 14 September 1813. Gov. William Wolcott Ellsworth died on 15 January 1868 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 76.

     Hon. Henry Leavitt Ellsworth was born on 10 November 1791 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott. Hon. Henry Leavitt Ellsworth was graduated in 1810 at Yale, New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. He married Nancy Allen Goodrich, daughter of Judge Elizur Goodrich and Anne Willard, on 22 June 1813. Hon. Henry Leavitt Ellsworth married Marietta Mariana Bartlett. Hon. Henry Leavitt Ellsworth married Catherine Smith. Hon. Henry Leavitt Ellsworth died on 27 December 1858 at Fair Haven, CT, at age 67.

     Ezekial Williams was born on 29 December 1765 at Wethersfield, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Deacon Ezekial Williams and Prudence Stoddard. Ezekial Williams was graduated in 1785 at Yale, New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. He married Abigail Ellsworth, daughter of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott, on 20 October 1794 at Elmwood, Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Ezekial Williams died on 18 October 1843 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 77.

Ezekiel was Postmaster of Hartford.

     Deacon Ezekial's brother, William, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

     Stiles: Oliver "practiced law and edited The Mirror at Hartford; was W.M.-Gen'l on the Governor's staff . . ." Oliver Ellsworth Williams was born on 19 April 1796. He was the son of Ezekial Williams and Abigail Ellsworth. Oliver Ellsworth Williams was graduated in 1816 at Yale, New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. He married Elizabeth Baker Crode, daughter of Nathaniel Crode, in April 1819. Oliver Ellsworth Williams died on 18 June 1870 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 74.

     Sophia Wolcott was born on 29 March 1786 at East Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Senator Samuel Wolcott and Jerusha Wolcott. Sophia Wolcott married Major Martin Ellsworth, son of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth and Abigail Wolcott, on 19 October 1807. Sophia Wolcott died on 8 June 1870 at Elmwood, Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 84.

     Senator Samuel Wolcott was born on 4 April 1751. He was the son of Capt. Gideon Wolcott and Naomi Olmsted. Senator Samuel Wolcott married Jerusha Wolcott, daughter of Gen. Erastus Wolcott and Jerusah Wolcott, on 29 December 1774. Senator Samuel Wolcott died on 7 June 1813 at age 62.

     Jerusha Wolcott was born on 29 November 1755. She was the daughter of Gen. Erastus Wolcott and Jerusah Wolcott. Jerusha Wolcott married Senator Samuel Wolcott, son of Capt. Gideon Wolcott and Naomi Olmsted, on 29 December 1774.

     They lived in South Windsor. John Wolcott was born on 20 November 1677. He was the son of John Wolcott and Mary Chester. John Wolcott married Hannah Newberry, daughter of Thomas Newberry and Anne Ford, on 14 December 1703. John Wolcott died on 20 August 1750 at age 72.

     Hannah Newberry was born on 10 February 1679. She was the daughter of Thomas Newberry and Anne Ford. Hannah Newberry married John Wolcott, son of John Wolcott and Mary Chester, on 14 December 1703.
