William Tweedale Loomis1

b. 10 December 1842, d. 24 April 1865
     William Tweedale Loomis was born on 10 December 1842.1 William Tweedale Loomis was the child of William Loomis and Jane McChesney.2 William Tweedale Loomis died on 24 April 1865 at Potomac River at age 22.1

William was a corporal in the 16th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers. He enlisted 20 July 1962; mustered 24 August 1862; he was captured at Plymouth, NC, 20 April 1864; paroled 30 November 1864. Quite a number of men who were returning to the regiment after captivity were on a steamer going down the Potomac River in the night, when the boat collided with the "Black Diamond." All the passengers jumped aboard the "Diamond," which itself went down, and William and six other men drowned.

Simeon Loomis1

     Simeon Loomis was born on 11 September 1767 at East Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.1 He was the son of Luke Loomis and Experience Carver. Simeon Loomis married Betsey Foster on 24 March 1791.1 Simeon Loomis died on 10 February 1865 at East Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 97.1

Simeon removed to Lansingburgh, NY, Oct 1794, and returned to East Windsor, Feb, 1800.2

Asa Offensend1

b. 11 January 1893, d. 9 October 1949
     Asa Offensend was born on 11 January 1893 at Sharon, Mercer Co., PA.1 He was the son of Fred Lewis Offensend and Mary Allen Baxter.1 Asa Offensend married Valla Clair Clark, daughter of John Dwight Clark and Martha Florence Welch, on 17 June 1914 at Brookfield, Trumbull Co., OH.1 Asa Offensend died on 9 October 1949 at Masury, Trumbull Co., OH, at age 56.1

Asa graduated from Sharon, Pennsylvania High School, with honors, in 1911. He worked for several years in various factories, first as laborer, and later as foreman. He was engaged as salesman for the Prudential Insurance Company for twenty-two years prior to his death.

Asa and Valla were enumerated in the 1920 Brookfield, Trumbull Co., OH, federal census, precinct 6, ED 252, page 16A. He was 27, she was 28. Children in the household were Lewis 4, Euclare 3, and Glen 1.

Asa was active in community affairs, being a member of the Township School Board for twenty years, an official of the Church Board for several years, and Superintendent of their Sunday School for many years. He liked people and his friends were many.

Valla is a member of the Order of Eastern Star and she and Ardis are members of the Presbyterian Church. She is a member of the Lincoln Village Beautifiers Club of Columbus, Ohio, and in 1959 won a silver cup, the aware for being the outstanding member in this club, as appeared in the nationally known magazines, "The flower and Garden" and "The Garden Path." She was named 1958's Lincoln Village Beautifier and awarded the beautiful Carl R. Frye trophy. She was voted this honor unanimously by the members of the club. 2

Elva, too received her elementary education in Masury, and she, too, graduated from Brookfield High School with honors, being the salutatorian of her class in 1924. She then took a Secretarial Course at the Shenango Valley Commercial Institute, Sharon, Pennsylvania. She was employed in the office of the Standard Tank Car Company, in Masury, Ohio.

Her special interests are her violin, gardening, and photography. She, too, is a member of the Methodist Church of Masury3.

Lewis Dwight Offensend1

     Lewis Dwight Offensend was born on 21 July 1915 at Masury, Trumbull Co., OH.1,2 He was the son of Asa Offensend and Valla Clair Clark.1 Lewis Dwight Offensend died on 7 November 1998 at Henrietta, Monroe Co., NY, at age 83.2

Lewis graduated from Ohio State University, in Electrical Engineering, in 1940, and is now a Licensed Professional Engineer. Doris graduated from Ohio State University in Social Administration in 1937.

Lewis served in the U. S. Army from 1941 until 1946, one and one half years being spent in Guam. He achieved the rank of captain. 3

Asa Euclare Offensend1

b. 23 September 1916, d. 3 April 2000
     Asa Euclare Offensend was born on 23 September 1916 at Masury, Trumbull Co., OH.1,2 He was the son of Asa Offensend and Valla Clair Clark.1 Asa Euclare Offensend died on 3 April 2000 at Venice, Sarasota Co., FL, at age 83.2

Euclare received his education in Brookfield Township, Ohio, Public Schools, Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania 1934-1936, Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, 1937-1939, and Graduate School 1947-1948. He completed Ohio State University in 1939 with his B.S. and Ed. Degrees. He was affiliated with Alpha Sigma Iota, a social Fraternity, and Tau Kappa Alpha, a Professional Fraternity. His special interests are science, literature, music, local history, and church.

He taught Junior High School and Senior High School in Brookfield Township, Ohio, from 1939 until 1941. He then entered the United States Army Infantry and served from September 22, 1941 until December 30, 1945, his activities being in the United States and the Southwest Pacific area. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1945, having attained the rank of Sergeant.

From 1947 until now in 1959 he has been in administrative management work with federal agencies of the U. S. Government, Veterans Administration, Department of Navy, and Department of the Air Force. He is now employed as research and development administrator with Wright Air Development Center, United States Air Force, Dayton, Ohio.

Rhoda graduated from Western College for Women, in Oxford, Ohio, with her B. A. and Ed. Degrees in 1934. She is affiliated with the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Western College Alumni League of Women Voters. Her interests are arts, crafts, and civic organizations.

The family is very active in the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dayton, Ohio, of which they are members. 3
