Solomon Griswold was born circa 1756 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.1 He was the son of Capt. Edward Griswold and Abigail Phelps.1 Solomon Griswold married Abiah Allen, daughter of Solomon Allen and Abiah (?), on 27 April 1780 at Bloomfield, Hartford Co., CT.2 Solomon Griswold died on 16 May 1834 at Ashtabula Co., OH.2
Solomon served in the Revolution under Capt. Noah Phelps, Col. Andrew Wood in 1776, 1777 and 1778. The DAR Patriot Index gives his service as Deputy Quarter Master General, and indicates he received a pension which is also on file at the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland. It shows he had been wounded in service.
About 1800, he moved to Ohio and settled at Windsor, Ashtabula County. He built the first cabin there and gave land for the first cemetery. He was largely instrumental in the upbuilding of the community, and served as Justice of the Peace for many years. In 1809, he served as Senator of the Ohio Congress. The record states that he arrived in Ohio with his six motherless daughters. He is recorded on the Soldiers Monument in Windsor Cemetery at Windsor, Ashtabula Co., OH as a Revolutionary soldier. 3

Although the census of 1810 shows a wife and three daughters, his will mentions no children of his own, they evidently having died prior to 1843. The will includes his wife Lucretia; children of his brother Solomon; children of Kaziah Highley, daughter of Solomon; children of his brother Edward; and Susan B. Neal a member of his household. Lucretia's will mentions members of her family; and Susan B., adopted daughter, wife of Charles R. Fisher. They had three children, two identified. 3
