     Catherine Smith was born on 29 October 1814 at Somerset, Somerset Co., PA.^1,2 She was the daughter of David Smith and Catherine Blank.³ Catherine Smith married George Washington Holcombe, son of James Alderman Holcombe and Dorcas Trumbull.¹ Catherine Smith died on 10 November 1906 at Scott, Van Wert Co., OH, at age 92.^3,2 She was buried at Quinshan Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.²

     David Holcombe was born on 29 February 1840 at Sandusky Co., OH.^1,2,3 He was the son of George Washington Holcombe and Catherine Smith.¹ David Holcombe married Cynthia J. Doty in 1866. David Holcombe married Willmena Metzgar on 28 February 1875.^2,3 David Holcombe died on 26 January 1918 at Helena, Sandusky Co., OH, at age 77.^2,3 He was buried at Quinshan Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.³

Willmena was enumerated in the 1920 Scott Twp., Sandusky Co., OH federal census, age 68, living next door to son Plin.

David Holcomb, son of George and Catherine Holcomb, was born at Quinshan, Madison Township, Sandusky County, Ohio, Feb. 28, 1840, and departed this life Jan. 26, 1918, aged 77 years, 10 months and 27 days.

Mr. Holcomb was married to Cynthia J. Doty in 1866. She preceded him to her grave in 1872. He was married again to Wilmena Metzger, of Pennsylvania, on Feb. 28, 1875. To this union six children were born.

He leaves to mourn his departure a wife and six children, namely Plin Holcomb, of Rollersville; Mrs. Ruby Lindsey, of Helena; Brice Holcomb, of Gibsonburg; Glen, John and Mart Holcomb, who are at home; also eight grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Mrs. John Holcomb, and one nephew, G. W. Holcomb, both of Helena. His parents, one grand child and two brothers preceded him to their graves.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. of Helena, having joined tha institution in the year 1877, being an active member for 41 years. He always followed the occupation of farming and was willing to lend a helping hand to all. A kind and loving husband and father, he was well liked in the community in which he lived.

     John W. Holcombe was born on 29 May 1841 at Tinney, Sandusky Co., OH.^1,3 He was the son of George Washington Holcombe and Catherine Smith.¹ John W. Holcombe married Susanna Garn, daughter of Jacob Garn and Catherine Klotz, in 1874.² John W. Holcombe died on 26 August 1876 at Tinney, Sandusky Co., OH, at age 35.^2,3 He was buried at Quinshan Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.³

     Eli Trumbell Holcombe was born on 25 April 1843 at Madison, Lake Co., OH.^1,2 He was the son of George Washington Holcombe and Catherine Smith.¹ Eli Trumbell Holcombe married Lucinda Reeves in 1868.^3,2 Eli Trumbell Holcombe died in 1906.³

     Cecilia Smith Holcombe was born circa 1849 at OH.¹

     Jane Holcombe was born circa 1850 at OH.¹

     Lucinda Reeves was born on 28 April 1845 at Madison, Lake Co., OH. She married Eli Trumbell Holcombe, son of George Washington Holcombe and Catherine Smith, in 1868.^1,2

     Anna J. Taft was born in 1827 at NY.¹ She married Moses Nelson Holcombe, son of James Alderman Holcombe and Dorcas Trumbull.¹ Anna J. Taft died after 1850.¹

     James A. Holcombe was born in 1844.¹ He was the son of Moses Nelson Holcombe and Anna J. Taft.¹

     Hannah Mason was born in September 1857.¹ She married Noble R. Holcombe, son of James Trumbull Holcombe and Amanda Loomis, in 1881.¹ Hannah Mason died after 1920.¹

     Addie C. Holcombe was born on 23 November 1899.^1,2 She was the daughter of Noble R. Holcombe and Hannah Mason.¹ Addie C. Holcombe died in March 1986 at Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH, at age 86.¹

     Lester L. Holcombe was born in July 1882.¹ He was the son of Noble R. Holcombe and Hannah Mason.¹

     Luther L. Holcombe was born in December 1885.¹ He was the son of Noble R. Holcombe and Hannah Mason.¹

     Ruth A. Holcombe was born in January 1890.¹ She was the daughter of Noble R. Holcombe and Hannah Mason.¹

     Willmena Metzgar was born in October 1851.¹ She married David Holcombe, son of George Washington Holcombe and Catherine Smith, on 28 February 1875.^1,2 Willmena Metzgar died on 13 December 1937 at Helena, Sandusky Co., OH, at age 86.¹

     Plin J. Holcombe was born on 28 March 1876 at Rollersville, Sandusky Co., OH.^1,2,3 He was the son of David Holcombe and Willmena Metzgar.¹ Plin J. Holcombe married Minnie Angus, daughter of Samuel Angus and Elizabeth Smith, on 11 September 1895.^1,4 Plin J. Holcombe died on 4 September 1958 at Fremont, Sandusky Co., OH, at age 82.^1,3 He was buried at Quinshan Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.³

Plin and Minnie were enumerated in the 1900 Madison Twp., Sandusky Co., OH, federal census, page 10A. He was a farmer age 24, she was 25. Charles was 4.

Plin and Minnie were enumerated in the 1910 Madison Twp., Sandusky Co., OH, federal census, page 5B. He was a farmer, age 34, she was 36. Children in the household were Charles 14, David D. 9, Orla L. 7, H. Angus 4, and Cora E. 16 months.

Plin and Minnie were enumerated in the 1920 Scott Twp., Sandusky Co., OH, federal census, page 8A. He was a farmer, age 43, she was 44. Children in the household were David D. 18, Orla L. 16, Angus 14, and Ellen11.

Plin Holcomb, 82, Gibsonburg Route 2, died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital after a serious illness of three weeks. He was retired and lifelong resident of the community.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Veh and Sn Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Charles W. Cory, pastor of Trinity E.U.B. Church. Burial will be in Quinshan Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning Friday noon.

Mr. Holcomb is survived by four sons, Charles of Helena, David of Gibsonburg, Orla of Rollersville and Angus of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Everett Garey of Gibsonburg; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; a brother Mart Holcomb, Gibsonburg and a sister Mrs. William Kuhns of Helena.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, four years ago; his parents, a son, a daughter and three brothers.

Born March 28, 1876 in Rollersville, the deceased was a son of the late David and Willhelmina Metzer Holcomb.

     John Holcombe was born on 3 May 1880 at Sandusky Co., OH.^1,2 He was the son of David Holcombe and Willmena Metzgar.¹ John Holcombe died on 23 November 1918 at Sandusky Co., OH, at age 38.² He was buried at Quinshan Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.²

     Glen Holcombe was born on 22 September 1882 at Sandusky Co., OH.^1,2 He was the son of David Holcombe and Willmena Metzgar.¹ Glen Holcombe died on 1 March 1930 at Bradner, Wood Co., OH, at age 47.² He was buried at Quinshan Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.²


Glen Holcomb, 47, who resided on a farm two miles east of Bradner on the Greensburg Pike, was found dead in the barnyard at his home last Saturday. Death was due to apoplexy.

Mr. Holcomb was never married but his mother, three brothers and one sister survive.

Funeral services were held Monday with burial in Quinshan Cemetery.

     Brice Holcombe was born on 5 July 1885 at Rollersville, Sandusky Co., OH.^1,2 He was the son of David Holcombe and Willmena Metzgar.¹ Brice Holcombe married Soffia Kuns, daughter of Peter Kuns, on 6 December 1913.² Brice Holcombe died on 22 March 1940 at Monroe, Monroe Co., MI, at age 54.² He was buried on 27 March 1940 at Quinshan Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.²

Brice and Soffia were enumerated in the 1820 Madison Twp., Sandusky Co., OH, federal census. He was a farmer, age 34, she was 27. Both of her parents were born in Denmark.

Funeral services for Brice Holcomb, 55, Monroe, Mich., formerly of near Rollersville who did at an Ann Arbor, Mich., hospital, Monday at 8:30 p.m. will be held at the Monroe Lutheran Church Thursday at 2 p.m.

The body will be brougt to Quinshan Cemetery, in Madison Township for burial. The casket will be opened at the grave and the funeral cortage is expected to arrive at the cemetery between 4:30 and 5 p.m.

Mr. Holcomb had suffered a stroke of paralysis after a nasal operation at the hospital a week ago, and pneumonia following the stroke resulted in his death. A son of the late David and Willihelmina Holcomb, Mr. Holcomb was born in Rollersville July 5, 1885, and he had resided there until about 15 years ago, when he went to Monroe. Hewas manager of the Cement Burial Vault Company in Monroe.

He was married December 6, 1913 to Miss Sophie Kuns of Gibsonburg. She survives, together with a daughter, Annabelle; a sister, Mrs. M. A. Lindsey, Helena and two brothers, Plin and Mart Holcomb of Rollersville. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.

     Martin Holcombe was born on 15 January 1888 at Bradner, Wood Co., OH.^1,2 He was the son of David Holcombe and Willmena Metzgar.¹ Martin Holcombe married Pauline S. Kuns, daughter of Peter Kuns.¹ Martin Holcombe died on 13 October 1967 at Oregon, Lucas Co., OH, at age 79.^1,2 He was buried at Quinshan Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.²

The 1920 Madison Twp., Sandusky Co., OH, federal census, page 9A lists "Martin", Pauline, Harold, and Earl, certainly the same family. He is 31 a farmer, she is 30, Harold 6, Earl 18 months. Both of Pauline's parents were from Denmark.

Mart Holcomb, 79, 535 Krotzer Avenue, died Friday at 4 a.m. in St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, of injuries suffered September 6 in a traffic accident three and one-half miles west of Gibsonburg in Sandusky County.

A car driven by Mr. Holcomb struck a bridge railing and flipped over, Mr. Holcomb sffered facial, leg and head injuries. He failed to regain consciousness.

Mrs. Pauline Holcomb, his wife, died five hours after the accident.

Mr. Holcomb had moved in Luckey two and one-half years ago after having farmed in the Gibsonburg area for many years.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church with burial in Quinshan Cemetery.

Mrs. Holcomb was born January 15, 1888 near Bradner. He and his wife had observed their 56th wedding anniversary in June.

Surviving are sons, Gerald, Monroe, Mich., and Earl, operator of the Holcomb Funeral Home; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Kuns, Helena and four grandchildren. Fouor brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Holcomb Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Friday. The body will be removed to Zion Lutheran Church to lie in state from Sunday noon until services at 2 p.m.

The Holcomb death was the 24th traffic fatality in Sandusky County this year.

     Ruby May Holcombe was born on 26 January 1892 at Rollersville, Sandusky Co., OH.^1,2 She was the daughter of David Holcombe and Willmena Metzgar.¹ Ruby May Holcombe married Merritt Lindsey on 26 March 1913.² Ruby May Holcombe married William F. Kuns, son of Peter Kuns. Ruby May Holcombe died on 4 March 1972 at Fremont, Sandusky Co., OH, at age 80.² She was buried at Quinshan Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.²

Mrs. Ruby Kuns, 80, Greeley St., Helena, died Saturday in the Sandusky County Home Fremont after a five-month illness. She was born in Rollersville, Madison Township, Jan. 26, 1892 to David and Willimena (Metzgar) Holcomb. She married Merritt Lindsey, March 26, 1913 and he died in 1949. She married William Kuns who died in 1965.

Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Chalmer (Eleanor) Metzler of Helena, and stepsons, Claire, of Rocky River and Merlin of Mayfield Heights. Five brothers are deceased.

She was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid Society, and a member of the Star Rebekah Lodge. The body is at the Veh and son Funeral Home in Gibsonburg, where Rev. Edward H. Beck will conduct services Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with burial in Quinshan Cemetery.

     Susanna Garn was buried at Quinshan Cemetery, Sandusky Co., OH.¹ She was born on 23 November 1847 at Tinney, Sandusky Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Jacob Garn and Catherine Klotz.¹ Susanna Garn married John W. Holcombe, son of George Washington Holcombe and Catherine Smith, in 1874.¹ Susanna Garn died on 10 December 1924 at age 77.¹

     George Jacob Holcombe was born on 9 March 1875.¹ He was the son of John W. Holcombe and Susanna Garn.¹ George Jacob Holcombe died on 17 February 1940 at age 64.¹

George was enumerated in the 1920 Scott Twp., Sandusky Co., OH, federal census, page 9b. He was a farmer, age 44. His mother was the only other member of the household.

     Mary Jane Garn was born circa 1851 at Helena, Sandusky Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Jacob Garn and Catherine Klotz.¹ Mary Jane Garn married Edwin R. Smith, son of Daniel Smith and Jenette Holcombe.¹ Mary Jane Garn died in 1921 at Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH.¹

     Nettie M. Smith was born on 17 October 1871 at Rollersville, Sandusky Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Edwin R. Smith and Mary Jane Garn.¹ Nettie M. Smith married Clyde Edwin Kirkland, son of Boyd Kirkland and Maggie Bitner, on 26 June 1897.¹ Nettie M. Smith died on 20 March 1934 at Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., OH, at age 62.¹

     David Christian Fast was born in 1835 at OH.^1,2 He was the son of Sarah (?)² David Christian Fast married Calesta A. Smith, daughter of Daniel Smith and Jenette Holcombe.¹ David Christian Fast died after 1880.¹

     Her married name was Mrs. Sarah Fast. Sarah (?) was born circa 1812 at PA.¹

     Rolla B. Fast was born in 1867 at OH.^1,2 He was the son of David Christian Fast and Calesta A. Smith.¹ Rolla B. Fast married Alice Bresler.² Rolla B. Fast died after 1910.^1,2

     Mary M. Fast was born on 1 May 1874 at OH.^1,2 She was the daughter of David Christian Fast and Calesta A. Smith.¹ Mary M. Fast married Harry Ozias Rosendale, son of Edward Rosendale and Alice Hebbert, on 20 March 1898.¹ Mary M. Fast died on 21 July 1926 at age 52.¹

     Phoebe Hurlbut was born in 1847 at Monclova, Lucas Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of D. Hurlbut and Maria Woodbury.¹ Phoebe Hurlbut married Leander Franklin Smith, son of Daniel Smith and Jenette Holcombe, in 1867.¹ Phoebe Hurlbut died in 1928 at Pontiac, Oakland Co, MI.¹

     Nettie Smith was the daughter of Leander Franklin Smith and Phoebe Hurlbut.¹ Nettie Smith died; in infancy.

     Cora Belle Smith was born in April 1869 at OH.^2,1 She was the daughter of Leander Franklin Smith and Phoebe Hurlbut.¹ Cora Belle Smith married William Elmer Ritchey, son of Daniel Ritchey and Susanna Crist, in 1887.¹ Cora Belle Smith died on 9 January 1949 at age 79.¹

William and Cora were enumerated in the 1900 Gibsonburg Village, Madison Twp. Sandusky Co., OH, federal census, page 15B. He was a teamster age 36, she was 31. Children in the household were Ethel M. age 10, Rosco Veri age 6, and Ona age 1.

     Franklin E. Smith was born in 1873 at Rollersville, Sandusky Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Leander Franklin Smith and Phoebe Hurlbut.¹ Franklin E. Smith died in 1918.¹

     Louise Klotz was born in September 1856.¹ She was the daughter of Martin Klotz and Julia Metzgar.¹ Louise Klotz married Jasper Newton Smith, son of Daniel Smith and Jenette Holcombe, in 1875.¹ Louise Klotz died on 4 June 1938 at age 81.¹

     Burdell Smith was born on 12 October 1878.¹ He was the son of Jasper Newton Smith and Louise Klotz.¹ Burdell Smith married Mable Tyson.¹ Burdell Smith died after 1920.¹

     Jasper Smith was born in August 1880.¹ He was the son of Jasper Newton Smith and Louise Klotz.¹ Jasper Smith died on 3 June 1909 at age 28.¹

     Rollie N. Smith was born in September 1884.¹ He was the son of Jasper Newton Smith and Louise Klotz.¹ Rollie N. Smith married Bertha Myers.¹
