Earl Holcombe died on 20 January 2005 at Grace Living Center, Edmond, OK, at age 86. He was buried on 25 January 2005 at Troy Township Cemetery, Wood Co., OH.
from an obituary published 24 January, 2005:
LUCKEY - Earl K. Holcomb, 86, former co-owner with his wife of Holcomb Funeral Home here, died Thursday at Grace Living Center in Edmond, Okla. His family did not know the cause of death.
Mr. Holcomb, a Gibsonburg native, worked at a funeral home in Monroe in the 1960s before he and his wife moved in 1963 to Luckey, where they purchased the funeral home from J.H. Landwehr, and Mr. Holcomb became funeral director.
He and his wife, Dorothy, worked at the funeral home until retiring in 1983. They moved to Arizona a few years later and to Oklahoma about six years ago. Mrs. Holcomb died in 2003.
His daughter-in-law, Donna Holcomb, said he was very well-known in Luckey and the surrounding area during his years as funeral director and enjoyed meeting and visiting with friends.
"He was very outgoing and had a good sense of humor," she said.
She said her father-in-law also served on the board of directors of a nursing home in the Pemberville area. His hobbies included playing golf and watching football and, in later years, drawing and sculpting.
"He was a wonderful artist," she said, adding that he loved to do pencil and charcoal sketches of people, including his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Holcomb served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Troy Webster American Legion Post No. 240 in Luckey. He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Luckey, and past president and member of the Luckey Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are his sons, Terry and Scott; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held Tuesday, with burial in the Troy Township Cemetery. Marsh Funeral Home, Luckey, is handling arrangements.

b. 16 September 1835
Major William H. H. Gore was born on 16 September 1835 at Sheshequin, Bradford Co., PA.1 He was the son of Obadiah Gore and Matilda Shaw.1
William received his early education in the public schools of his native township and in the academies at Towanda and Athens, Pennsylvania, where he graduated in classics and practical surveying. When nineteen years of age he entered business life as a clerk, and was for three years engaged in the drug business. He then removed to Peoria, Illinois, where he was in the wholesale drug trade for one year, and the following year engaged in the same business in Griggsville, Illinois, at the end of which time he sold his interests and returned to Pennsylvania and for a short time occupied a clerical position and then engaged in the manufacture of patent medicines. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted on the first call for volunteers, April 22, 1861, as a member of Company I, Sixth Pennsylvania Reserves, and served throughout the war, participating in all of the battles in which his regiment was engaged from Dranesville to Bethesda Church, at Cold Harbor. He was promoted to the rank of major on July 1, 1863, and on September 10, 1866, was brevetted lieutenant-colonel for gallant services in the battles of the Wilderness and Spottsylvania, and was mustered out of the service, June 11, 1864. He then returned to Pennsylvania and opened a store in Towanda which he conducted until 1870 when he retired to the old homestead in Sheshequin and for two years was occupied in the settlement of the estate of a deceased uncle. In 1874 he was appointed to the railway mail service on the Lehigh Valley and Erie railroads, in which lie remained until 1880, and later he established the Athens Sanitarium, which he conducted for some years.
