She was the friendly face at the front desk, welcoming people on their best and worst days at New Britain General Hospital. She was the sweet neighbor who always asked after your family or brought you dessert. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, an adoring grandmother, and a doting great-grandmother.
Honoring her memory, Pauline’s son, Paul Case and daughter-in-law Debra, of Avon, CT; daughter, Lee Drag and son-in-law Edward, of Newington, CT; son, Scott Case, of Arizona; step-son Gary, and daughter-in-law Susan, of Tennessee; and daughter-in-law, Collette Case, spouse of Pauline’s since departed step-son Ronald Case of Vermont, all carry on her call by taking care of one another and nurturing the family that Homer and Pauline built for them. Though distance sometimes makes it a challenge, they gather together as often as possible to support one another, laugh with one another, and feed each other’s souls and bellies. This is exactly how Pauline lived and loved.
Pauline is predeceased by her sisters, Arlene, Evelyn, Hazel, and Ruth, and her brothers Leon, Ronald, and Paul. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and her three grandchildren, Jessica Angell, Kelly Fowler, and Joshua Case, gifting them with memories and lessons on building a home which welcomes everyone with generosity, love, and stories. Grandma always had a story to tell -- such as how she learned from her mother to be prepared for unexpected guests by throwing a few extra potatoes in the oven when cooking for the family -- or a gift to give, keeping extra candy in her purse or hanging on to something that made her think of you until it was the right time to give it to you.
Her most lasting legacy will surely remain with her great-grandchildren: Lyla, Aurora, Paul, Clark, Charlotte, and Elianna. She always loved her babies, and these babies will know her through the memories they made and the stories their family tells them of her. Always available for a hug, a quick kiss, or soft caresses, “GGMa” will live on as her great-grandbabies show their affection to others and remember her fondly for her affection to them.
From the Bailey Funeral Home:
Pauline Johnson Case, 83, of Plainville, CT, daughter of Paul S. Johnson and Lillian Snow Johnson, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of March 30, 2017. She leaves as her legacy the love her family members have for each other, a love she fostered through her kindness, warmth, and propensity to serve up just the right meal to gather everyone she cared for around her table. She is survived by her loving husband, Homer D. Case, who adoringly referred to her as “his girl” throughout their 62 year marriage, one which exemplified life-long love and care.
Pauline spent her life caring for others. She was a phone operator, connecting people to their loved ones across great or small distances. She was the sweet neighbor who always asked after your family or brought you dessert. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, an adoring grandmother, and a doting great-grandmother.
