     Clara Jackson Best was born in September 1853 at NY.¹ She married Henry Algernon Holcombe, son of Henry Holcombe and Betsey B. Chase, on 20 December 1868 at New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA.¹ Clara Jackson Best died in 1926 at New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA. She was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA.²

William R. and Esther were enumerated in the 1900 South Bristol, Ontario Co., NY, federal census. It was the second marriage for both. Esther had four children, all of whom were still living, but no children were listed in the household, so it is safe to assume they had no children together to this point.


William R. and Bell were enumerated in the 1910 South Bristol, Ontario Co., NY, federal census. He was a fruit farmer, age 70, she was 28. It was his third marriage, her first and they had been married two years and had two children; must be something in the fruit. Children in the household were William E. 1, and James R. age obscure. Also enumerated was niece Stella, age 32.

     Bell (?) was born circa 1881 at NY.¹ She married William R. Holcombe, son of NY Holcombe, circa 1907.¹

     Adelbert Holcombe was born circa 1865 at NY.¹ He was the son of William R. Holcombe and Laverna G. (?)¹

The census is illegible and it is not clear if Adelbert is a son or step-son.

     Esther (?) was born in July 1840 at NY.¹ She married William R. Holcombe, son of NY Holcombe, circa 1898.¹

     Lucy K. Holcombe was born in March 1895 at NY.¹ She was the daughter of Willis William Holcombe and Lucy T. Brady.¹

     Hattie May Brown was born on 24 April 1873 at Henrietta, WI.¹ She married Willis David Holcombe, son of David Holcombe and Annie Appleby, on 11 March 1897. Hattie May Brown died on 3 February 1942 at Wisconsin General Hospital at age 68.² She was buried on 6 February 1942 at Mazomanie Cemetery, Mazomaine, Dane Co., WI; Block 3, Lot 85.

This same family seems to appear in the 1880 Arena, Iowa Co., WI, federal census, but the head of household is Daniel, age 52, wife Kate age 49, both born in NY. Children listed are Mary 22, Herbert 13, Edward 10, Aggethoss 8, and Gilbert 5. This could be the second son of Worcester Holcombe of the same county.
