     John Fay III was born on 5 December 1700 at Westborough, Worcester Co., MA.² He was the son of John Fay Jr. and Elizabeth Wellington.³ John Fay III married Hannah Child, daughter of John Child and Hannah French, on 17 April 1721 at Marlborough, Middlesex Co., MA.^1,4,5 John Fay III died on 10 November 1732 at Westborough, Worcester Co., MA, at age 31.⁵

     John Fay Jr. was born on 30 November 1669 at Marlborough, Middlesex Co., MA.² He was the son of John Fay and Mary Brigham.³ John Fay Jr. married Elizabeth Wellington, daughter of Benjamin Wellington and Elizabeth Sweetman, on 1 December 1690 at Watertown, Middlesex Co., MA.^1,2 John Fay Jr. died on 5 January 1747 at Westborough, Worcester Co., MA, at age 77.²

John united with the church in Marlboro, Feb. 24, 1706. His wife, Elizabeth was received Nov. 9, 1699. When the first Congregational Church of Westboro was organized, Oct. 28, 1724, he was one of the original 13 members and was chosen as first Deacon, Oct. 12, 1727. His wife retained her church relations in Marlboro until July 25, 1725, when she also united in Westboro. Rev. Ebenezer Parkman was their first minister.

John Fay was a highly respectable man and filled several town offices before the division of the town and after Westboro was incorporated he became one of the most prominent men of the new town. At a town meeting held in Westboro, Mar. 3, 1718, he was chosen first Town Clerk. He held this office eleven years. He was on the list of Selectmen under the following dates: Jan. 5 to Mar. 3, 1718, 1718-21, 1723, 1725-27, 1732-34, 1736. He was Town Treasurer, 1722. He also served as assessor and in other places of honor and trust. In 1724 he was commissioned or honored with the title of Capt. and was a magistrate.

He is said to have been one of the first settlers in that part of the township and to have built him a cabin in the hill side, accessible only on one side, the better to protect himself against the Indians. This place was in a manner preserved by his descendants and was denominated "Their Ancestor's Fort" until about 1834.

Rev. Levi Lankton Fay of Moss Run, Ohio, under date of Dec. 19, 1883, writes of John Fay: "He secured his farm about one mile from this Fort and when there was danger he would flee to the Fort. Under such circumstances he cleared up his farm. I have often visited the spot where he made an underground room with a trap door as a security while farming, especially if the Indians intercepted him from fleeing to the Fort, which on one occasion saved him from falling into their hands. Near by this underground room stands the largest pear tree I ever saw. This tree was then a little sapling he found while clearing his farm. In my last visit to it in the summer of 1855 it was still standing, looking venerable by reason of its old age, but still bearing its delicious fruit."

He was a large land owner, which adjoined the town of Marlboro, and he was often chosen on committees to transact business for the church and for his fellow citizens. ⁴

     Richard FitzAlan 10th Earl of Arundel was born in 1346. He married Elizabeth de Bohun, daughter of William de Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton and Ellizabeth Badlesmere, on 28 September 1359; by Papal dispensation.¹ Richard FitzAlan 10th Earl of Arundel died on 21 September 1397; beheaded.

     Elizabeth de Bohun was born circa 1350. She was the daughter of William de Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton and Ellizabeth Badlesmere.¹ Elizabeth de Bohun married Richard FitzAlan 10th Earl of Arundel on 28 September 1359; by Papal dispensation.¹ Elizabeth de Bohun died in 1385.

     William de Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton was born circa 1312. He was the son of Humphrey de Bohun 4th Earl of Hereford & Essex and Elizabeth Plantagenet.¹ William de Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton married Ellizabeth Badlesmere.^1,2 William de Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton died on 13 September 1360.

     Ellizabeth Badlesmere married William de Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton, son of Humphrey de Bohun 4th Earl of Hereford & Essex and Elizabeth Plantagenet.^1,2

     Humphrey de Bohun 4th Earl of Hereford & Essex was born in 1276 at Pleshey Castle, Essex, England.
