Mrs. Cora Hart Giddings, 96, of Hempstead, L.I., N.Y., a native and former resident of Bristol, died Saturday night after a long illness.
She was the widow of Frederick W. Giddings, a wagon and carriage manufacturer here in the later part of the 19th century and the early part of this century. She was born in Bristol and was a graduate of the Clarence A. Bingham, then the North Side School. Her husband sold his business properties at North Main and Center streets, in 1920, property on which the Endee Inn and other New Departure buildings are located.
After living in Sarasota, Fla., Mrs. Giddings moved to Long Island following the death of her husband. While in Bristol, she was active in the affairs of Prospect Methodist Church.
She leaves a daughter, Miss Sue Giddings, a former supervisor of music in the Hempstead School Department. A son, Watson Hart Giddings, a prominent musician, died in 1929.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Hempstead. Burial will take place in West Cemetery here with a committal service at 1 p.m. Wednesday to be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth B. Grady, pastor of Prospect Methodist Church.

WANITA J. SLACK, age 79, of 1891 Babcock Hollow Road, Cortland, NY (Town of Virgil) passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 at her home after a long illness. Wanita was born May 18, 1929 at Blodgett Mills, NY a daughter of the late Newton and Ethel Oliver Holcomb and was a life area resident. She was retired from being a Home Health Aide for Cortland County. Her first husband , William Slack, died in 1977. Later she was married to Leo Freelove who passed away in 1998. She enjoyed senior travel and casino trips, but of all she enjoyed her family that will greatly miss her.
Survivors include her sons, Paul J. (Marjorie) Slack and Carl W. (Louisa) Slack both of Virgil, her daughter, Thelma L. (Douglas) Gunn also of Virgil; a step-daughter, Karen Lunn; a step-son, Marlin L. Freelove; a brother, Jack (Frances) Holcomb of Florida and a sister, Edith (Henry) Beebe of Newark Valley; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Slack of Berkshire; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Leon H. Slack; a step-son, Harold J. Freelove; siblings, Phelidela Colby, Thelma Muckey, Homer Holcomb, Esther Snavely, Robert Holcomb, Rodney Holcomb and Ruth Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 in Virgil Rural Cemetery with Rev. Archie Smith officiating. There are no calling hours. Edith Irene Beebe, 81, of Newark Valley, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 following a period of declining health. Edith is survived by her sons, David (Kathy) and Walter (Carol) Beebe; her brother, Jack Holcomb; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Carole Beebe; and many nieces and nephews. Born on March 8, 1931 in Richford, NY, Edith was a daughter of the late Newton and Ethel Holcomb. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 63 years, Henry F. Beebe; her siblings, Thelma, Phidelia, Esther, Ruth, Robert, Homer; and her sons, Henry and Roger Beebe. Edith and Henry raised their family on their Wilson Creek Road farm. In addition to working on the farm, Edith was a long-time employee of IBM in Owego. A very crafty lady, she delighted in crocheting beautiful blankets, dolls and toys for her grandchildren. Her keen wit captivated her audience and her values and work ethics are her legacy. She will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service and Celebration of Her Life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. Spring burial will be in Center Lisle Cemetery. SPEEDSVILLE--Robert J. Holcomb, 58, of 70 West Creek Rd., died suddenly on May 23, 1994, in Ithaca. Born on October 16, 1935, he was a son of the late Newton and Ethel(Oliver) Holcomb. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Homer and sisters: Ruth, Esther and Phildelia. He is survived by his wife: Connie J. (Parlett) Holcomb, at home, his children: Robert Holcomb, Newton and wife Anne Holcomb, Florence Brooks, Charlie Holcomb, and Rebecca all of Richford, Jessica Micha and Bobbi Jo Holcomb of Speedsville, Rodney and wife Julie Holcomb, Ithaca; his stepchildren: Vicki Card and James Miner, brothers and sisters-in-aw: Jack and Betty Holcombe, Rodney and Etta Holcomb, sisters and brothers-in-law: Edith and Henry Beebe, Wanita Slack, Thelma and Walter Muckey. Vivian (Millington) Holcomb Hewitt, 78, of Harrison Avenue, went to be with her son, her two husbands and her parents on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, after a long illness.
Born on April 14, 1923, in Johnsburg, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Leneta (Fuller) Millington.
She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Johnsburg.
Her husband of 28 years, Charles F. Holcomb Sr., passed away in 1985. Her second husband, Daniel R. Hewitt, passed away after 17 years of marriage.
Mrs. Hewitt worked for 15 years as a nurse's assistant at the Lockhart Home for Adults in Lake George and then took the same position for 10 years at Eden Park Health Care Center in Glens Falls.
Her enjoyments included trout fishing in the Hudson River, playing piano and accordion, bingo, bowling and her passion of picking and eating strawberries. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents and her two husbands, a son, Charles F. Holcomb Jr., also died before her.
Survivors include three children, Anthony Holcomb and his wife, Lucille of Schuylerville, John Holcomb and his wife Mary of Queensbury and Deborah Thaxton and her husband, Bernie, of Glens Falls; a brother, Arnold Millington and his wife, Dorothy, of Great Barrington, R.I; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
