Betty J. White of Amherst, a homemaker and executive secretary, died Sunday at home after a long illness. She was 79.
Born Betty Attmore in Buffalo, she grew up in Kenmore and was a graduate of Kenmore West High School. She also attended Michigan State University and Bowling Green University.
Mrs. White worked as an executive secretary for New York Telephone from 1948 to 1958 before leaving that job to be a homemaker. She lived in the Town of Tonawanda from 1959 until 1990, when she moved to Amherst.
An active member of Deerhurst Presbyterian Church, she also belonged to the Michigan State Alumni Association, the Kenmore Rotary Anns and the Kenmore West Alumni Association. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Harold L. "Hal"; a daughter, Karen L. Merriam of Pottstown, Pa; a son, Paul A. of Cheektowaga and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Deerhurst Presbyterian Church, 257 Deerhurst Parkway, Kenmore. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
