A long article in the Newsletter of the Descendants of the Founders of Ancient Windsor from the Winter 2009 issue (vol XXVI, no 2), disputes the parentage of Lois, to summarize:
To summarize, no birth record or baptism record ca. 1718 for a Lois Phelps has been found. It is unlikely that Lois (Phelps) Viets was the daughter of Samuel Phelps, and the probate and land records examined do not conclusively prove that Lois (Phelps) is the daughter of either Josiah or Nathaniel Phelps. A possible solution to Lois' parentage is that she was the daughter of Lois, daughter of Josiah Phelps. However, further documentation is needed. As a result, DFAW currently remains unable to accept lineages based on this line. We welcome any additional primary documentation that would conclusively tie Lois (Phelps) Viets to one of Ancient Windsor's early Phelps families.
