     Lydia Pinney was born in June 1759. She was the daughter of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case. Lydia Pinney married Reuben Case, son of Reuben Case and Ruth Goodrich.

     Lovisa Pinney was born in October 1761. She was the daughter of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case. Lovisa Pinney married Capt. Jesse Holcombe, son of Capt. Hezekiah Holcombe and Susanna Alderman. Lovisa Pinney died on 10 September 1825 at age 63. She was buried on 12 September 1825 at Scotland Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

     Elizabeth Pinney was born in August 1763. She was the daughter of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case. Elizabeth Pinney married Abel Holcombe, son of Capt. Hezekiah Holcombe and Susanna Alderman, on 1 April 1779.

     Butler Pinney was born in September 1765. He was the son of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case. Butler Pinney married Eunice Griswold, daughter of Elisha Griswold and Eunice Viets, in 1797. Butler Pinney died on 28 December 1850 at age 85.

     Jonathan Pinney was born in January 1769. He was the son of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case. Jonathan Pinney died on 22 January 1846.

     Lot Pinney was born in August 1771. He was the son of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case. Lot Pinney died on 6 April 1822 at age 50.

     Abigail Pinney was born on 1 April 1767. She was the daughter of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case.

     Chloe Pinney was born in December 1774. She was the daughter of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case.

     Origen Pinney was born in April 1776. He was the son of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case. Origen Pinney married Rosabella Adams on 2 May 1799. Origen Pinney died on 15 November 1818 at age 42.

     Joseph Pinney married Asenath Adams. Joseph Pinney was born on 18 November 1780. He was the son of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case. Joseph Pinney died on 15 July 1830 at age 49.

     Silvia Pinney was born on 20 January 1782. She was the daughter of Jonathan Pinney and Lydia Case. Silvia Pinney died on 9 June 1864 at age 82.

     Samuel Pinney was born on 20 November 1668. He was the son of Samuel Pinney and Joyce Bissell.

     Mindwell Case married David Adams, son of Thomas Adams and Martha Buttolph. Mindwell Case was born on 24 October 1721. She was the daughter of Sgt. Daniel Case and Penelope Buttolph. Mindwell Case died on 16 February 1813 at age 91.

     Sgt. Daniel Case was born on 21 January 1719/20 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Sgt. Daniel Case and Penelope Buttolph. Sgt. Daniel Case married Mary Watson on 22 February 1750 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Sgt. Daniel Case died on 24 May 1801 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 81. He was buried at Hopmeadow Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

Daniel served as a private for one month in the company of Captain Jonathan Humphrey of Simsbury, in a regiment which was commanded by Colonel Samuel McClellan, raised in September, 1777, by resolve of the General Assembly, which joined an expedition to Providence.²

     Lt. Dudley Case was born between 23 November 1722 and 1723 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Sgt. Daniel Case and Penelope Buttolph. Lt. Dudley Case married Dorcas Humphrey, daughter of Charles Humphrey and Hepzibah Pettibone, on 14 April 1743 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Lt. Dudley Case died in 1792 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT.

Ruth Cost Duncan also cites the Simsbury Vital Records.

     Susan (Lois) Case was born on 20 September 1726 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Sgt. Daniel Case and Penelope Buttolph. Susan (Lois) Case married Joseph Mills II, son of Joseph Mills and Hannah Adams, circa 1750.²

     Capt. Zaccheus Case was born in 1728. He was the son of Sgt. Daniel Case and Penelope Buttolph. Capt. Zaccheus Case married Abigail Barber, daughter of Lt. Thomas Barber and Mercy Case. Capt. Zaccheus Case died in 1812.

Zacheus served in Capt.Case's Co. at the Lexington Alarm. He was Capt. of the 18th Militia Regiment in 1778. They removed to Whitestown, NY.

Children listed in book by second wife, was an error in Nathaniel Brown's "Genealogical Sketches." Ezekiel Case was born on 30 July 1731 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Sgt. Daniel Case and Penelope Buttolph. Ezekiel Case married Lucy Cornish, daughter of Capt. James Cornish and Amy Butler, on 2 August 1753 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Ezekiel Case married Mary Allen on 16 May 1771 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Ezekiel Case died in 1816.

     Joseph Adams married Mary Case, daughter of John Case and Sarah Holcombe, in 1726.

     Bowman questions if Margaret has second marriage to cousin Noah Humphrey, son of Hannah Case and Capt. Noah Humphrey. Margaret Case was born in 1722. She was the daughter of Capt. Jonathan Case and Mary Beaman. Margaret Case married Joseph Humphrey, son of Joseph Humphrey and Abigail Griffin. Margaret Case died in 1806.

     Joseph Humphrey was born on 5 September 1721 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Joseph Humphrey and Abigail Griffin. Joseph Humphrey married Margaret Case, daughter of Capt. Jonathan Case and Mary Beaman. Joseph Humphrey died on 9 March 1770 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 48.

     Hannah Gardener was the daughter of Lt. George Gardner and Hannah Shattuck. Hannah Gardener married Lt. John Buttolph, son of Thomas Buttolph and Ann Harding, on 16 October 1663 at Salem, Essex Co., MA. Hannah Gardener died on 26 June 1681 at "Missing Place" no. 5459.

     Isaac Griswold was born on 8 August 1749 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.⁴ He was the son of Isaac Griswold and Mindwell Phelps. Isaac Griswold married Christina Holcombe, daughter of Lt. Martin Holcombe and Christian Winchell. Isaac Griswold died on 21 September 1839 at age 90. Isaac served in the Revolution as a private 8th Co., 1st Regt. of Militia, 1776.

Bowman says that Isaac and Christina moved to Worthington, Ohio, and had children listed in Weir, OCR, and Stiles. In The Griswold Family, the Frenches say they are buried in Elm Grove Cemetery which is in Windsor.

The Frenches also cite Windsor, Ct. records; Stiles; Revolutionary records and Archives; DAR Patriot Index I:288.

     Prudence Griswold was born on 26 November 1751 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Isaac Griswold and Mindwell Phelps. Prudence Griswold died on 27 November 1752 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 1.

     Abiel Griswold was born on 14 June 1755 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.⁴ He was the son of Isaac Griswold and Mindwell Phelps. Abiel Griswold married Huldah Pinney, daughter of Capt. Abraham Pinney and Elizabeth Butler, on 25 October 1775 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.⁴ Abiel Griswold married Rebecca Goodwin, daughter of Samuel Goodwin and Rebecca Loomis, on 13 May 1802 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.⁴ Abiel Griswold died on 20 December 1813 at age 58.⁵ He was buried at Elm Grove Cemetery, Poquonock, Hartford Co., CT.⁵

Abiel was a farmer and served in the revolution as a private, 8th Co., 1st Regt. of Militia. He was among the first owners of Ohio lands. His old home on Poquonoc Avenue, Windsor, remains in an exceptionally unspoiled condition and contains some of the finest wall paintings in the state which must have been by a real pioneer in this art. ⁶

The distributin of his estate was made to his eldest son John, Abiel B., Ila, Oregen, Abraham and Marcus. ⁶

Deanna Holcomb Bowman lists four marriages, Hulda, Chloe Moore (from Stiles/648) in 1779, Dridania Easton in 1799, and lastly Rebecca Phelps , The Griswold Family only lists Hulda and Rebecca. Stiles page 357 only lists Hulda and Rebecca. In addition, Bowman asserts that Hulda was the daughter of Elizabeth Butler, while Griswold shows her mother to be Sarah Clarke. In a later e-mail she now agrees with Stiles on Hulda's mother.

     Ursula Griswold was the daughter of Isaac Griswold and Mindwell Phelps. Ursula Griswold married (?) Blanchard.

     (?) Blanchard married Ursula Griswold, daughter of Isaac Griswold and Mindwell Phelps.

     Christina may be the Christina Griswold of whom was written on a book titled Mass Violence in America on page 85, in the section titled "Newgate of Connecticut":

"Among the accidents which have occurred to visitors, was that of Mrs. Christia Griswold of Poquonock, while standing at the mouth of the shaft leading down into the cavern, accidentally stepped off, and fell the whole depth, striking on the rocky bottom. The buoyancy of her clothes, or some other cause, saved her life, though she received injuries from which she never entirely recovered. A prisoner afterwards fell at the same place, fetters and all, without appearing
to injur him, it is said, in the least." Christina Holcombe was born on 17 February 1755. She died in December 1831 at age 76.

     Huldah Pinney was born in 1753. She was the daughter of Capt. Abraham Pinney and Elizabeth Butler. Huldah Pinney married Abiel Griswold, son of Isaac Griswold and Mindwell Phelps, on 25 October 1775 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.² Huldah Pinney died on 20 April 1801.²

Bowman lists Huldah's parents as Capt. Abraham Pinney and Elizabeth Butler. But in a 1998 e-mail indicates that this is probably not so, that Huldah is child of Abraham's second marriage to the widow Sarah (Clark) Moore as in Stiles. This is also what the Griswold Genealogy shows.

     Capt. Abner Pinney was born in 1750 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Capt. Abraham Pinney and Elizabeth Butler. Capt. Abner Pinney married Ruth Gillett, daughter of Zaccheus Gillett and Ruth Phelps, in 1773. Capt. Abner Pinney died on 23 November 1804 at Worthington, Franklin Co., OH. He was buried at St. John's Cemetery, Worthington, Franklin Co., OH.³

Abner served in the Revolution, and afterwards was one of the original 38 members of the Scioto Company that took up land in Worthington, OH.

     Elizabeth Gillett was born on 30 March 1758 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Zaccheus Gillett and Ruth Phelps.¹

     Rebecca Goodwin was born on 8 December 1770.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel Goodwin and Rebecca Loomis.² Rebecca Goodwin married Nathan Phelps, son of Aaron Phelps. Rebecca Goodwin married Abiel Griswold, son of Isaac Griswold and Mindwell Phelps, on 13 May 1802 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.³ Rebecca Goodwin died on 12 April 1819 at age 48.

     Nathan Phelps was born on 8 March 1768. He was the son of Aaron Phelps. Nathan Phelps married Rebecca Goodwin, daughter of Samuel Goodwin and Rebecca Loomis. Nathan Phelps died on 30 November 1798 at age 30.

     Dridania Easton died in 1801.

     Mary Griswold was born on 23 July 1707 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Francis Griswold and Abigail Colton. Mary Griswold married Zaccheus Griswold, son of Benjamin Griswold and Elizabeth Cook, on 15 November 1728 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Mary Griswold died on 10 January 1806 at age 98.

     Margaret Griswold was born on 20 October 1710. She was the daughter of Francis Griswold and Abigail Colton.

     Keziah Griswold was born on 11 September 1714. She was the daughter of Francis Griswold and Abigail Colton. Keziah Griswold died on 1 December 1714.

     Ann Griswold was born on 29 July 1716 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Francis Griswold and Abigail Colton. Ann Griswold married Gideon Moore, son of Jonathan Moore and Hannah Long, on 23 April 1735 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.²

     Francis Griswold was born on 8 November 1719 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Francis Griswold and Abigail Colton. Francis Griswold married Jerusha Thrall on 2 August 1739. Francis Griswold died on 9 November 1796 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 77.

     Matthew Griffin was born in 1726. He was the son of John Griffin and Eleanor Holcombe. Matthew Griffin died on 16 December 1799.

     Eleanor Griffin was born in 1729. She was the daughter of John Griffin and Eleanor Holcombe. Eleanor Griffin married Nathaniel Messenger, son of Joseph Messenger and Catherine Holcombe.¹

     Nathaniel Messenger was born on 8 June 1725 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Joseph Messenger and Catherine Holcombe. Nathaniel Messenger married Eleanor Griffin, daughter of John Griffin and Eleanor Holcombe.² Nathaniel Messenger married Eunice Stratton, daughter of Jeremiah Stratton and Eunice Case.² Nathaniel Messenger died on 10 February 1801 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT, at age 75.³

Carol Laun writes: The Messenger genealogies have blended two different Nathaniel Messengers into one person. The Nathaniel who married Joanna Callum lived in Franklin and Norwich, CT. (Barbour Collections). The Nathaniel who married three times in Granby, lived in Granby. SPR 2-158 will of John Griffin mentions "my daughter Eleanor deceased w/o Nathaniel Messenger."

     Rachel Griffin was born in 1730. She was the daughter of John Griffin and Eleanor Holcombe.

     Lucine Griffin was born in 1732. She was the daughter of John Griffin and Eleanor Holcombe.

This may be the Lucina Lampson, who the 2nd wife of Elnathan Lampson, died 25 July 1803. ¹

     Thankful Griffin was born on 30 November 1738.¹ She was the daughter of John Griffin and Eleanor Holcombe. Thankful Griffin married Daniel Alderman, son of John Alderman and Sarah Case. Thankful Griffin died on 18 December 1835 at age 97.¹
